“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” –Michelangelo

Like the sculptor who sees a work of art inside a block of stone, at Billy Turner Racing our task is to see the successful racehorse inside every Thoroughbred that arrives at out barn. Whether it’s a flashy and muscular 2-year-old sales topper, a chubby and fuzzy unbroken homebred, or a grizzled 5-year old veteran with creaky joints and a challenging attitude – our goal remains the same: provide each horse the attention it needs for it to reach its highest potential.
Our ideal stable size is 30 to 35 horses. It’s a small stable in today’s terms, yet we prefer it that way. By keeping the numbers low we’re able to adjust our program to fit each horse – rather than adjusting the horse to fit the program, as is the case at many larger operations. At Billy Turner Racing, we listen to each horse’s needs and provide each animal the individual, hands-on attention it requires. Bill practices old scholl horsemanship combined with a comprehensive program of therapies, ranging from conventional veterinary intervention to alternative methods such as acupuncture, homeopathy, and chiropractic. Horses require time to develop and mature both physically, mentally and emotionally. If an owner seeks start as many 2 year-olds as possible, as quickly as possible, we may not be the right choice. Yet, if an owner’s vision is to apply a patient approach designed and adapted to the individual – then we welcome the opportunity to assist them in finding and developing the champion within, and in doing so, helping to maximize the long-term return on their investment.
If a horse is a brilliant 2 year-old, who possesses the body to withstand the challenges of training and the spirit to persevere, we are not shy about getting that horse ready for available early races, and positioning that horse for the Classics. At Turner Racing we apply the same horsemanship methods that enabled Seattle Slew to win the Triple Crown: a winning approach is practiced at our barn every day of every week.
"In my experience having Bill Turner train our horses, he has an uncanny ability to develop talent in horses. With Seattle Slew as the obvious example, Bill recognized a special horse and, instead of having him be just another short-shining star, the horse became a Triple Crown winner and one of the most widely recognized names in racing.
In his training stable today, Bill Turner continues with his ability to make a below-average horse average, an average horse into an above-average one, and the above-average horse into a breathtaking performer. It is an art to spot talent in each individual, and then comes much art and science in doing what it takes each and every day during training to develop that talent into real performance in the afternoon. We have had a small number of horses with Bill over a three year period and have had the pleasure of watching our horses win first time out at long odds against tough fields of horses many times more expensive than ours, going on to win repeatedly, reaching the $100,000 earning levels a few times, and getting a coveted G1 place spot in a field of 9 of the best 3-YO fillies in the nation. Bill has earned my respect for his horsemanship and his ability to carry out a plan for each horse. If you are looking for a trainer who will get you the best results on the track possible, while avoiding the high horse burn-through rate that so many other stables seem to go through, I urge you to send your horses to Bill Turner."

About the Laser
“A gentleman by the name of Dr. Marvin Cain had a small animal practice out in Cincinnati, Ohio. Well, he went to China for 2 or 3 years to study acupuncture, and he came back and was using it on cats and dogs. He decided, why not try it in horses. So, he went over to River Downs, just inside Kentucky, and claimed a bunch of horses with everything wrong with them known to man. He began using acupuncture, and these horses started to run well. I was down in Florida with a string of horses and a new owner when I got wind of it. We called in Dr. Cain, and boy, these horses started running well. I mean, they were outrunning their pedigree.
Then he met a few Europeans who were using chiropractic methods on horses. Again, you had horses that weren’t going anywhere, but when you lined up their vertebrae properly, overnight they became different horses.

I also use a device invented in the 1980’s by a guy named Dan Paris. He was working with a research team at the University of Miami. They discovered that various tissue: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm, all have different resonant frequencies. And by applying light waves of the same frequency as the tissue, they could stimulate healing on a cellular level and cut healing time in half. I had a friend who knew Dan Paris, and he gave me one. He just wanted some feedback on it. So, we tried it and were surprised by the positive results achieved.
If you walked around this entire facility you might find 3 or 4 trainers using it today. Others just don’t buy into it. It uses wavelengths that are not in the visible light spectrum – and if they can’t see it, they just don’t believe it. But when you combine this therapy with chiropractic and acupuncture, you’ve really got something.”
